Pay by phone parking arrives in Eastleigh

 29th Sep 2009

From 1 October, motorists in the borough of Eastleigh can use a new 'phone parking' system called RingGo to pay for their parking.  RingGo is a quick and easy-to-use mobile phone service, allowing parking to be paid with a credit or debit card.

The service is offered as an alternative method of payment for all Council operated pay and display parking across the borough. This includes Eastleigh Town Centre, Hamble Square, Hedge End Railway Station and Itchen Valley Country Park.

To use the service simply park as usual.  Then call the local telephone number shown on signs around the car park (023 8098 2984).  All parking areas offering RingGo will have clear signs on how to use the system.  Civil Enforcement Officers check which vehicles are parked with RingGo using internet connected handheld units.

A further benefit for motorists paying by phone is the ability to top their parking remotely if running late.  RingGo also offers a text reminder service ten minutes before the parking time is due to expire.

Cabinet Member for Transport David Airey said "The new service will provide a welcome and helpful option for motorists using our pay and display car parks and on street parking meters.  It will be particularly useful for motorists without change fro the ticket machine."

First time users can register by mobile phone at the time they want to park, by calling 023 8098 2984 or by visiting www.RingGo.co.uk.  Registration only takes a couple of minutes but is much quicker the next time the service is used.
