Drivers parking in North Tyneside Council managed facilities along the coast, can now pay for their parking using their mobile phone and a debit or credit card.
The pay by phone service RingGo is being offered from this week as an alternative to cash payments for parking in 17 sites in North Shields, Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. These are:
- North Shields: Low Lights Car Park,
- Tynemouth: Spanish Battery Car Park, Priors Haven Car Park, Front Street (on-street), Sea View Car Park, Sea Banks (on-street), Tynemouth, Spa Access (on-street), Grand Parade, (on-street), Beaconsfield Car Park, Blue Reef Car Park, Longsands, (on-street).
- Whitley Bay: Eastbourne Gardens Car Park, Bournemouth Gardens Car Park, Dukes Walk Car Park, Brierdene Car Park, Mini-Golf Car Park, St Mary's Island Car Parks
To use the service motorists either pre-register on line at www.myRingGo.co.uk or phone the service when they want to park. The standard rate number to call - 020 3046 0010 - is clearly shown on the payment machines in the car park or on the street.
First time users of the service are asked to provide the four digit location code (also shown on the machine), their car make, colour and registration number, and the length of time they want to park. Once details are confirmed, the payment is taken from the driver's debit or credit card.
First time users need to provide full details of their vehicle and payment card, but the next time they use the service it is much quicker, as the state-of-the-art technology retrieves information provided previously.
Once registered with the service, motorists can use a variety of alternative ways to pay - online, or via a smartphone, through the myRingGo website, by text message, or by using the special RingGo iPhone application.
Using the service costs a flat rate of 20 pence in addition to a car park's normal parking fees. Optional text messages are offered to confirm the details of parking sessions booked and alert the user when their parking is due to run out. Drivers can use RingGo to extend their stay without having to go back to the car park, thereby reducing the risk of getting a Penalty Charge Notice.
No parking tickets need to be displayed as Civil Enforcement Officers check which vehicles have paid by accessing the RingGo database via internet connected handsets.
Adam Dolphin, Sales Manager for RingGo says of the introduction "The Easter holidays are just a week away, so it's an ideal time to start offering RingGo. If you're taking a day out to the seaside the last thing you want to think about is having enough coins, or your parking running out." "With RingGo, you don't have to worry. You just park your car and pay with your credit or debit card. If you decide to stay longer than planned, you can top up your parking wherever you are, without even returning to the car."
