North Devon motorists now just "Ring" and "Go"

 11th May 2009

From today (Monday 11th May) in North Devon, you can pay for parking with just a quick call on your mobile phone.

North Devon Council is launching the "RingGo" cashless parking service which allows motorists to charge parking to their credit or debit card by making a short, local telephone call.

From today, when you park your car in any Council car park in the area, you'll have the option of paying by cash as normal OR you can pay by card over the phone.

RingGo is quick and convenient, giving motorists the ability to top up parking payments without having to return to their car.

Martin Williams, Transport Manager for North Devon Council says:  "This new service makes paying for parking even easier - it doesn't matter if you're short of change and you won't have to walk back to your car with a ticket. You will also be able to top up your parking, so if you get held up or delayed you won't need to rush back to your car - you can just make a quick phone call instead."

New users of the service will be asked for their number plate, colour and make of their vehicle, where and for how long they would like to park and if they want to receive a text message 10 minutes before their parking session expires. They will then have the option of paying by credit or debit card.

The initial registration process will take a couple of minutes, but future calls to park will be much quicker as the system will recognise the callers' mobile phone number and card details.

There is no charge for registering with RingGo.  When you use the service you will pay a 20p convenience charge on top of the normal parking charge. You can also choose to receive a text confirmation of your parking session or a reminder when your parking session is about to run out, for an additional 10p charge per text.

The local number for the North Devon RingGo service is 01271 823825. Each car park has its own four-digit identification code, clearly displayed on signs near the pay and display machines.
