Sutton becomes RingGo's 10th London Borough

 4th Oct 2010

The London Borough of Sutton today (4 Oct) becomes the tenth London borough to offer RingGo cashless parking as an alternative method of payment to coins.  Sutton joins Brent, Bromley, Ealing, Hounslow, Lewisham, Redbridge, Richmond, Southwark and Wandsworth, in supplying the service.

Sutton is rolling out RingGo as part of its campaign to minimise costs during this time of economic frugality.  The Council is expecting to benefit from:
  • Expenditure savings due to less cash being taken through payment machines, including reductions in the number of collections required, as well as the associated costs of processing and banking coins
  • Reducing the required levels of machine maintenance and replacement as payments transfer from coin to phone
  • Fewer losses due to handling and managing coins - including theft, fraud, vandalism and shrinkage
Parking Manager for the London Borough of Sutton, Donna Ashby comments: "All local authorities are looking to make savings these days and because we've always taken cash, it's far too easy to overlook the costs.

"Put simply, costs mount up there's major expense from replacing pay-and-display machines when they break or are vandalised.  Electronic payments do away with these issues."

Cllr Simon Wales, Sutton's Executive Member for Communities, Transport and Voluntary Sector, said: "Pay-by-phone parking will be a very exciting addition to our car parks.

"We hope that this will make parking easier and more flexible for residents and visitors to the borough, in line with our common sense approach to parking."

Denise Orford, Senior Account Manager for RingGo, agrees: "At the end of the day, cash payments are a hassle, and transferring even a proportion of customers onto phone payment provides benefits.  With some of our customers now saving a third of their costs simply through rolling out RingGo, we're sure many others will follow suit."
