Phone, pay and park on the North Cornwall Coast |

North Cornwall District Council today announced that car parks across the district are to offer the innovative "park by phone" service - RingGo. This means that some of the best-loved coastline and fashionable holiday resorts in the British Isles, including Bude, Boscastle and Padstow, will soon enjoy the benefits of advanced pay by phone technology.
RingGo offers an alternative to paying by cash in Pay and Display locations. Simple and secure it enables speedy payment by credit or debit card. Users dial the local rate number, key in their location, provide car registration details and authorise payment using their personal phone. Information on how to use the system is clearly marked on signs, nearby.
In other areas of the country, the RingGo service is proving popular with residents and visitors alike. Paying with RingGo lets people conserve their small change - which is handy for buying refreshing Cornish ice creams in the heat of the summer, or a warming bag of chips after a bracing walk on the beach in winter.
RingGo provides car park users with a wider choice. Some visitors prefer to use coins and this option will still be available. But many visitors will be familiar with the RingGo service and will benefit, not only from quick and easy parking, but also topping up their fee remotely without returning to the car - a facility helpful for people enjoying the local attractions or those wanting to extend their stay on the beach.
Harry Clarke, Commercial Director of RingGo says "We are delighted this well-loved area of Cornwall has chosen to introduce our service. Inevitably during the summer months there will be a high proportion of first time users owing to the constant flow of new visitors. The friendly British voice which acts as the personality of the service, plus the easy to use nature of RingGo makes it a natural solution for a tourist area like this. Our experience with the seafront parking spaces in Bournemouth last summer was very encouraging and leads us to expect usage to be as high."
Councils benefit from pay by phone parking in a number of ways - reduced cash handling, lower vandalism and theft. But if customers are to use the service with confidence, they must be sure it is a safe and secure method of payment, which complies with the processes of capturing and authorising credit card details by phone. In this, RingGo benefits from the vast experience of its founding company - Cobalt Telephone Technologies - a company which has an unblemished security record and has taken over £200m of UK penalty charge notice payments.
This latest implementation of RingGo adds to the growing popularity of the solution in the South West of England. The service has been offered in Great Western station car parks from Paddington to Penzance since 2006 and Taunton Deane Borough Council announced their roll out during December. With new announcements every few weeks, RingGo's success grows ever more assured. As Clarke says: "Ring and Go - it's as simple as that!"
