RingGo comes to Wandsworth

 16th Mar 2009

A new cashless parking service is being offered in key Tooting streets.

The RingGo service will be available to people parking on-street in most of the Tooting Broadway Controlled Parking Zone E1 sub-zone from today (March 16).

This includes key areas around St George's Hospital, alongside Tooting High Street and beside Lambeth Cemetery.

RingGo users can pay for their parking using a mobile phone, and either a credit or debit card.  The service is offered as an alternative to cash, but individuals will still be able to pay for their parking at machines.  The Parkmobile phone parking service, which is currently offered, will remain, so motorists who already use this system can continue to use the existing location codes.

Unlike the existing phone parking service, motorists using RingGo will not have to remember to call back to end their parking session.  When phoning the service, they choose in advance the amount of time for which they want to park.  If they are delayed or decide to stay longer, a further call can be made to extend the parking time.  An optional text message (10p charge) can also be requested, as a reminder of when the parking time is due to run out.

First time RingGo users wishing to park can either register on-line at www.RingGo.co.uk or call the London number (020) 3046 0010 number from their mobile.  The registration call normally takes about 2 minutes and is charged at the user's standard airtime rate.

When subsequently using the system, the process is much quicker, with a call duration of typically less than a minute. This is because the mobile phone number is recognised and the relevant information is automatically retrieved.

As well as Wandsworth, RingGo is currently offered in Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Hounslow, Lewisham, Richmond and Southwark - meaning that motorists using the service in any of these Boroughs will have the benefits of simply having one telephone number to store in their phone and one single website from which to download their receipts.

Cllr Jane Cooper, chairman of Wandsworth's Planning and Transportation Overview and Scrutiny Committee, welcomed the introduction of the new service.

"Wandsworth Council is keen to offer residents and visitors, choice and flexibility - and paying for parking using a credit or debit card, rather than with cash, is appealing to many.  We are very pleased to be introducing the RingGo service here, especially as it is already offered so widely across the West side of London."
