RingGo Shortlisted for National Environment Award

 15th Feb 2010

Cobalt Telephone Technologies and the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames have been shortlisted for the  2010 British Parking Awards for their submission "Bold steps to a greener footprint".

Now in their ninth year, the annual British Parking Awards are the parking industry's highest accolade to individuals and teams that have excelled in the provision of service to the industry.  This year, the number of awards has increased to 14, with the addition of new categories such as The Environment Award - for which Cobalt Telephone Technologies has been jointly shortlisted.

This is the fourth year running that Cobalt Telephone Technologies has reached this stage in the awards.  Last year, the service was highly commended in the Back Office Team of the Year award; in 2008, Cobalt won the coveted Marketing Award; and in 2007, RingGo again reached the final, this time in the extremely competitive Innovation category, where it received a commendation from the judges.

The Environment Award is judged by senior industry experts, who, for this award, are looking for examples of technological and operational innovations that deliver greater sustainability and for schemes that encourage more environmentally friendly uses of the car.

Carbon-Metered parking, the subject of the submission, is a specially adapted version of the standard RingGo service, whereby parking tariffs automatically vary depending on the carbon dioxide emissions of the vehicle being parked.  This world leading service has operated on and off-street across the whole of the London Borough of Richmond since 1 October 2009.

Joanna Miller, Technical Director for RingGo, who is responsible for the development of the service says "When Carbon-Metered Parking launched across Richmond upon Thames, it was a world first.  Since the roll out, we have received national and international interest in the scheme and seen a positive change in motorists' behaviour.  We believe this makes Carbon-Metered Parking an ideal contender for the title of Environment Award."

"We are obviously pleased that the judges have recognised the impact of Carbon-Metered Parking by shortlisting the service for these prestigious awards and we look forward to the ceremony on 12 March when the winning entry will be announced."
