Motorists parking in Canterbury city council car parks can now pay for their parking by mobile phone.
The RingGo system is an easy to use mobile phone system that allows people to pay with a credit or debit card, rather than using cash at a machine. It is being offered as an alternative payment method at most council off-street car parks and on-street parking in the district.
To use the service, simply park in any RingGo-enabled car park and call 01227 802804. The number will be on prominent display in the car park.
The first time they use RingGo, people will be required to register details of their vehicle and payment card. This can be done in advance online at the Ringgo website. From then on, each time they park, they ring the number, give the car park reference that is on the pay and display machine and say how long they wish to stay for.
It is also convenient for people who are running late to return to their car, or want to stay longer. One quick call allows them to extend their parking time without returning to their vehicle.
There is a convenience charge of 20p on top of the standard council parking tariff for using RingGo.
Executive member for parking, Cllr Mike Patterson, said: "The RingGo system means you will never need to have cash with you to park your car. It is quick and easy to use and takes all the hassle out of trying to find the right money. We expect it to be very popular with local motorists."
