Bristol Christmas Shoppers now Ring and Go

 17th Dec 2008

From today (17 December) people shopping in Bristol can pay for their parking over their mobile phone, using a credit or debit card, rather than with coins.  Cashless parking service, RingGo, is rolling out to to a number of on-street parking bays and off-street car parks operated by Bristol City Council, from today.
This includes car parks at the Grove, Portwall Lane and a number of On Street Parking areas around the Park Street and Westend area and closer to Cabot Circus around the Portland and Brunswick Square areas.

RingGo parking is already offered at Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway railway stations, as well as at Temple Quay - so many local people will already know the service.  The telephone number being used, is also the same as the station - 0117 341 9000 - ensuring consistency across the city and increased ease of use.

As well as saving motorists from scrabbling around for change and queuing at the ticket machine in the cold, RingGo offers the option of "topping up" your parking.  So when people are doing their last minute shopping, or perhaps visiting the January sales, they don't need to worry about getting back to their car in time, they can just add to their parking session from wherever they are, up to the maximum parking period allowed at the location.

Cllr Mark Bradshaw, Executive Member for Sustainable Development says of the implementation: "The adoption of RingGo is part of the commitment to make our city  more attractive and accessible  for residents and visitors alike. Motorists will find that this new system makes it easier to park and pay and is part of a wider investment in improving Bristol's parking offer.

"We also like the fact that motorists can add to their parking session - allowing people to extend their stay and spend more time in the city.  The evidence from elsewhere, is that this can usefully stimulate the local economy - something we're obviously keen to do, particularly in today's economic climate."

The Council is currently promoting RingGo through posters in the city and stickers on machines.  Wherever the cashless parking service is offered, there will be signs displaying information on how to use it, including the number to call and the car park code.  The option of paying with coins at machines continues to be offered.
