Reigate & Banstead: Surrey's First Council for RingGo Mobile Phone Parking |
15th May 2009 |
|
 | Reigate & Banstead Borough Council becomes the first local
authority in Surrey to offer RingGo mobile phone parking payments when
the new system starts on Monday, 18 May. The council will be launching
RingGo, alongside existing pay-and-display machines in all its car parks. |
Drivers can still pay by cash in the car parks, but the new system will provide the extra flexibility of paying by phone.
Once registered with RingGo, motorists will be able to ring a local
telephone number (01737 880022) to pay for parking, simply by giving
the car park reference number, which will be on the pay & display
machine, and stating how long they wish to stay for.
RingGo will bring huge benefits for motorists who will be able to park
without having the need to carry loose change and be safe in the
knowledge they can extend their stay if necessary without going back to
the car park.
With fairly typical hourly parking prices for the region, offering
motorists the choice of paying by credit or debit card, as an
alternative to cash, has obvious attractions.
Ian McElwain, Parking
Services Manager for Reigate & Banstead Borough Council comments:
"Many people use credit or debit cards and mobile phones these days and
saving coins up for parking can be a real pain."
"RingGo offers
motorists a quick and easy alternative, and has to be a good move for
our council - not to mention the fact that we can do it without the
expense of upgrading or replacing our pay-and-display machines".
