An innovative new service to save motorists time and hassle when parking their cars has been launched in North Hertfordshire.
From this week onwards, people using North Hertfordshire District Council owned car parks will no longer have to hunt for spare change as they will be able to pay for their parking by phone using their debit or credit card.
The registration process for the new service run by RingGo takes just a couple of minutes. First time users of the system will need to give details of their car registration number, where they are parked, how long they want to park for and their credit or debit card details.
The local number to call for North Herts motorists is 01462 88 44 77. This number is clearly displayed at all locations where the service is being offered. First time users can also register their details by visiting the website www.myRingGo.co.uk .
Future calls should take less than a minute as RingGo will recognise your phone number and recall your previous details. The service will ask for your 3 digit security code on the back of your card each time you call. Motorists will pay a 20p convenience charge on top of the parking fee each time they use the service.
Motorists can ask for a text confirmation of their parking session and a text reminder when their parking is about to run out. The system also allows motorists to top up the length of stay for their parking over the phone, saving an unnecessary trip back to their vehicle to add extra money into the ticket machine. VAT Receipts for parking can also be obtained through the RingGo website.
Cllr Thomas Brindley, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transport said:
"We are really pleased to be launching this new scheme to help make life easier for motorists wanting to park in our car parks. As more and more transactions are made using cards, having to remember to keep loose change for parking can be very frustrating.
"We hope that offering a cashless payment alternative that also allows people to top up their parking on the phone will prove to be a welcome initiative by our residents and visitors."
