RingGo - the Nation's Favourite Phone Parking Service

 2nd Mar 2010

RingGo further strengthens its position as leader of cashless parking provider for the UK's local authorities as it signs up another two councils today (2 March) at Parkex 2010.

The new contracts with North Hertfordshire and Epping Forest means that RingGo, already providing services for 45 councils, now has well over double the local authority customer base of its nearest competitor.

Both the newly signed councils are leading the way in their respective counties.  North Hertfordshire becomes the premier authority in Hertfordshire to offer cashless parking, rolling out the service both on- and off-street within the next few weeks. Epping Forest will be the first council to offer RingGo in Essex, when it goes live, across all council-operated off-street car parks.

RingGo is already offered by private operators in Essex and Hertfordshire, but the size and scope of the parking provided by the local authorities, is key to extending the reach and therefore take up, of the service.

Harry Clarke, Commercial Director for RingGo explains "RingGo's UK coverage is such that no matter where we roll out, we find a healthy proportion of motorists have already used the service.  However, for mass take up in any particular location, it's important to provide as wide a variety of coverage as possible."

"Having one or two car parks run by a private operator may gain you loyal customers in that one car park.  But we've seen a massive difference in take up when the local authority, rail operator and private operators all offer our service.  That's when motorists expect to see the service and start using it whenever and wherever they park."

Simon Young, Transport Policy Officer for North Hertfordshire District Council agrees "We felt that RingGo has good UK coverage and considerable experience of working with Local Authorities.  Not only is it offered on our doorstep, at First Capital Connect stations, where we can see it in operation, but it's also available across the country at other authorities similar to North Hertfordshire."

"As part of our tender process, we approached a number of different local authorities that operate RingGo for their views.  The feedback was very positive, which provided added confidence that it was the right service for us too."
