The pay-by-phone parking service offered by Milton Keynes Council is changing from November 1.
The Paybyphone solution is being replaced by RingGo, the same system offered in Bedford, Banbury, Bicester, High Wycombe, Luton, Oxford and various nearby railway stations.
RingGo is replacing the current PaybyPhone service (formerly Verrus), which has been operating in central Milton Keynes since May 2009.
Drivers who have used the existing service and wish to continue to pay by phone will need to register with the new service. This can be done online at the myRingGo website (www.myRingGo.co.uk), or through RingGo's iPhone and Android applications, which are free to download either through the handset, or from the Apple iTunes or Android marketplace.
Alternatively motorists can register when they want to park, by calling the RingGo Milton Keynes number, 01908 918 918.
Cllr John Bint, cabinet member responsible for parking, said: "The new service is good news, both for motorists that currently pay to park by phone, and those that may consider doing so in future.
"It's a nationwide service, with more than 3,500 locations across the UK and we're sure motorists will take to it here, as they have elsewhere across the country.
"Our experience of cashless parking to date has shown that motorists like avoiding the need to save up coins and pay for their parking by credit or debit card instead.
"During the changeover period, we would ask motorists to read notices and leaflets carefully to make sure they know which service to use."
