From today (25th November) motorists in the London Borough of Redbridge can use a new 'phone parking' system called RingGo to pay for their parking. RingGo is a quick and easy-to-use mobile phone service, letting you pay for your parking with a credit or debit card, rather than using cash at a machine. The service is being offered as an alternative method of payment in all Council operated car parks across the Borough. It will still be possible to pay by cash, but the RingGo service offers additional flexibility to those that either can't, or don't wish to pay with coins. The main benefits of RingGo are that you don't need to hoard coins in your pocket or have change in your vehicle, which can lead to theft and vandalism when left on display, you don't have to use a parking machine (a real benefit if it's cold, wet, or late at night) and you don't need a parking ticket. Civil Enforcement Officers check which vehicles are parked with RingGo using internet connected hand held units. To use the service, simply park as usual in the car park and look for the RingGo signs which will be shown nearby. These provide the London telephone number 020 3046 0010 that you need to call to use RingGo. Using RingGo, if you have not registered on line, see below, you will be asked to provide details of your vehicle, location and payment card, which can take a couple of minutes. On subsequent calls, the information is retrieved by recognising your mobile phone number and calls to pay normally take less than a minute. An additional 20p convenience charge is made for using the service, on top of the standard car parking tariff. A further benefit of paying by phone is that you can top up your parking remotely if you're running late, and so avoid a penalty notice. RingGo also offers a text reminder service, so you can be notified 10 minutes before your parking time is due to expire (additional charge of 10p per reminder). |
